I’ve been teaching Saxophone for over 20 years and have a wealth of experience with learners of all ages and abilities. Whatever your goals, I aim to help you find a path of study and practice schedule to fit your lifestyle and achieve your aims. I am currently the head of jazz for the Guildhall School of Music Junior school where I work with talented young musicians hoping to make their lives in music, many of my ex students are now professional musicians in their own right. I also teach one to one in my studio in Oxford and online lessons via zoom. Whilst jazz is my specialism I can also offer help and guidance in the following areas:

Tone Development

Sight Reading

Exam Preparation

Music Theory

I’m also an experienced ensemble leader and have run workshops for Oxford University, Sax School, Dawkes Music, Pro Corda Strings, BABSWE as well as school and college groups. I can run jazz improvisation sessions for groups of all abilities and offer coaching to ensembles and groups. Do get in touch to discuss your projects.

My ‘Exploring Jazz’ books are published by Schott and are available worldwide. I’ve also had arrangements published by Trinity College and Big Band music performed by UK and US student groups.

I’m also a music gurus artist and my video courses for ‘Exploring Jazz Saxophone’ are available via my artist page on Musicgurus.com

Teaching Testimonials

“I could not recommend Ollie highly enough. I was with Ollie for seven years and he took me from a complete beginner, all the way to Grade 8. A friendly, patient and approachable teacher: Ollie can teach any level of playing-ability, whilst providing a relaxed and fun environment. An incredible player in his own right, there is always more that he can teach you. A music teacher can make or break your love for an instrument — Ollie's supportive and engaging teaching-style made me love mine. Ollie is charming, knowledgeable and highly experienced, and will inspire you to be the best player you can be."

— Louis Hodgson: County Big Band player and Cambridge Psychology Undergraduate.

“Ollie’s enthusiasm and diverse musical knowledge always led to productive and enjoyable lessons. In particular I found his teaching of improvisation effortless, encouraging me to develop my own style.”

— Joe Baker County Big Band player and professional cyclist.

I started lessons with Ollie during the first Covid lockdown. As I live outside the UK, online lessons via Zoom have enabled me to continue learning the Saxophone. Ollie is a fantastic teacher, always friendly, patient and encouraging. He keeps the lessons fresh and interesting, and provides tips and exercises to improve my playing. I have learnt a huge amount and I am really grateful that, despite living abroad, I have been able to benefit from Ollie’s incredible musical talent and teaching.”
